I love capturing birds in flight.
I use an inexpensive ($400) Tamron lens. It’s not the greatest, but it does allow me to capture the occasional sharp and clear image.
I desperately want a L Series Canon telephoto… but they are oh so pricey! So, until I can scrape the funds together, this Tamron SP 70-300 mm for Canon is okay, and is the lens I used to capture all of the images below.
Sigma just came out with a new telephoto – SP 150-600 mm f/5-6.3 Di VC – and I have my eye on it, big time… the reviews look promising, and the price is reasonable: $1,069.00, compared to the ultra expensive but ultra-fabulous Canon telephotos…..

Love your photos! I am okay if the birds pause and pose, but my efforts at capturing them in flight…well…I still have a lot to learn in that area!

Thanks so much, Kathy! And, it’s so true… when they are cooperative and pose for us, it’s lovely and interesting, but when in flight, it’s catch as catch can and, in my experience, one out of 20 shots “may” be clear! Now, with a good telephoto, the odds are much better. Someday soon I’ll get that telephoto and have such fun!
